World Cup Challenge Results
Olly Middlemass won the £100 first prize in the World Cup Challange with 36 correct predictions. No-one predicted the eventual Golden Boot winner, Thomas Mueller. 7 amateur pundits (including the website editor) went for Spain and David Villa, as the winners and top scorer, but as no-one picked the correct combination this prize slips into the clubs coffers! Well done to Olly and thanks to everyone who took part to help raise funds.

Race Night - Friday 30th April 2010
The club held a fundraiser in the form of a Race Night at the Scone Arms, Scone on Friday 30th April. The evening was a great success, with six races on the card. Each of the 8 horses in each race was be pre-sold at £10 each with the winning owner taking away a prize.
All the jockeys on the evening were auctioned prior to each race with the winning jockeys taking away a share of the auction pot. Racegoers really got into the spirit, in fact 'spirits' played a big role in some of the bidding on the latter races. At the end of the night over £1600 had been raised to aid club and junior development. We are extremely grateful to all the members and parents who attended on the event and to all those who donated prizes in advance of the evening.
A special mention to Stav, Steve and Hilly, for all their pre-event organisation, and evening bookmaker duties. Also thanks to Ivor, who once again excelled on the mic, even if some of his auctioneering tactics did verge on extortion! A big thanks to the Scone Arms as well, for their hospitality on the evening. The senior section have made this is the venue of choice after training and matches.

Sharks in Australia (Oct 09)
Two of Strathearn's promising young cricketers are currently enjoying the benefits of wintering down under. Asif Hussein and Jack Henderson have headed to New South Wales to play for Waratah Mayfield the home club of Josh Brackenbury who spent the summer of 2009 with us in Perth.
Before they headed south, the club held a quiz night and raffle at the County Hotel in Perth, which raised just short of £800 to help the boys with the funding of their trip. Everyone at Strathearn is extremely grateful to those who attended the night, to support a great cause.
The club is working hard to ensure this exchange is a long term partnership which will continue to benefit young cricketers from both clubs.
Jack and Asif are now settled in well and enjoying the change of culture as this picture shows.

2009 - A Season of Success
After several seasons of near misses Strathearn finally manage to achieve their goal of being promoted to the Strathmore Union Premier Divsion for the 2010 season. Under the guidance of first XI skipper Ivor Patterson the team performed consistently over the course of a stop-start season, during which the weather played a dominant role. Promotion was finally secured with a comprehensive win at home to Cupar in late August. With only a few points required it was fitting that 16 year old Michael Murphie, a product of the thriving junior section, took the wicket that secured Premier Division status.
The season saw a first for Strathearn in the arrival of Josh Brackenbury from New South Wales, the clubs first overseas amatuer. Josh plays his cricket down under with Waratah Mayfield CC, in the Newcastle District of New South Wales, and made valuable contributions to the club both on and off the field. As you will see from the season averages Josh had a solid season with the bat, and was excellent behind the stumps. Certainly the most agile wicketkeeper in Strathearns recent history!
The second XI had a steady season in Division 2 of the Union and once again, young up and coming players benefited from the experience of playing regular senior cricket.
Annual Club Golf Day and Quiz Night
Twelve committed golfers headed to Glenisla Golf Club near Alyth, on Saturday 24th October for the annual club golf outing. The weather forecast was not so good but this did not deter the deadly dozen. However after about 6 holes the rain started and although bearable at first, it became heavier until water gathered on fairways and greens forcing the second and third fourballs off the course after 11 holes. The leading group did manage to complete 18 holes and Gordon Mearns was deservedly victorious after a fine round of golf in appalling conditions.
After drying out and enjoying some fine food in the club house, the golfers headed to the County Hotel in the evening to join another 80 or so, for a travia night arranged to raise funds for Asif and Jack's expedition to Australia. It was an immensely successful night with £800 being raised through the quiz and raffle. Thanks again to all those who took part and especially to those who also donated raffle prizes.
