Doo'cot Sixes - Saturday 3rd September 2011

Perth Strathearn came out on top on an enjoyable day, winning the inaugaural Doo'Cot Sixes event. A drizzly start gradually gave way to sun and blue skies, as play got under way at 12pm. Two pools of four teams contested the group matches and Strathearn and Kinross prevailed from the bottom pitch as Mayfield and Rossie Priory came through on the top pitch. A Dooky Derby between Strathearn and Mayfield saw the former progress to the final, but this was overshadowed by the commotion on the top pitch as Rossie Priory capitulated against Kinross, losing three wickets in their final over, to hand Kinross a place in the final.

The final turned out to be a masterclass in sixes batting at Strathy openers David Patton and Paul Tramontanas put the Kinross bowlers to the sword. Boundaries flowed and a score of 70 was posted in the five available overs. The Perth teams bowlers always had a bit to spare as the game was closed out. Skipper accepted the trophy, but the day itself was a real winner for cricket in the local area.
